Title I of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) of 1990, as amended, protects
qualified applicants and employees with disabilities from discrimination in hiring,
promotion, discharge, pay, job training, fringe benefits, classification, referral,
and other aspects of employment on the basis of disability. Title II of the ADA covers
state and local governments, while Title III covers public places and businesses.
Each section of the law outlines both the organizations required to adhere to that
law and what accommodations must be provided. For more information, please visit the U.S. Department of Justice Civil Rights division's

Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973 obligates state and local governments
who receive federal financial assistance, to ensure that persons with disabilities
have equal access to any programs, services, or activities. This covers classes, public
sporting events and other activities at the university. On May 1, 2024, the Office
of Civil Rights (OCR) finalized a rule that prohibits discrimination on the basis of disability. This rule, titled Nondiscrimination on the Basis of Disability in Programs or Activities Receiving Federal
Financial Assistance, advances equity and bolsters protections for people with disabilities under Section
504.
