Department Honors Track

We offer a Department Honors track that can be achieved independently from or in conjunction with Cohen Honors College recognition. 

In order to be admitted to the Political Science Honors Track, students must:

  • Be a Political Science major
  • Receive an "A" or "A-" in two of our core courses (121, 220, 226)
  • Have a total GPA of 3.0 or better.

In order to graduate with  Departmental Honors, students must:

  • Have a 3.5 average GPA for in their POLS classes
  • Complete an additional applied learning experience beyond POLS 600 (Internship, Coop, Model UN, Research Assistantship).

Political Science Minor

Requirements (total of 15 credit hours):

  • POLS 121 OR POLS 220 OR POLS 226
  • + 4 more POLS electives of your choice

You can use the Change My Major app in MyWSU and just choose to add a minor.

 

Pi Sigma Alpha Honors Society

Pi sigma alpha initiates

Membership in Pi Sigma Alpha, the national political science honors society, is open to undergraduate and graduate students.  Students do not need to be political science majors.  Undergraduate membership criteria includes:

  • Completion of 60 credit hours.
  • Completion of 10 or more hours in POLS with at least one 300+ level course and a B average in these courses
  • An overall GPA that puts the student in the top one-third of their class. 

Graduate students must have completed 9 graduate credits in political science with no grade lower than a B. Undergraduate coursework does not count towards graduate student eligibility, and graduate students must be pursuing a degree in political science to qualify for membership.
