Through the generosity of anonymous donors the department has a new fund for our majors. The goal is to provide help to students who might be dealing with external difficulties, particularly financial ones. Professor Deborah Boyle (College of Charleston) will be the Philosophy Department's 2023 Distinguished Lecturer in the History of Philosophy. Boyle's first lecture (title TBA) will take place Thursday, March 23, at 1:00pm in Lindquist Hall Room 100. The second lecture (title TBA) will take place Friday, March 24, at 1:00pm in Lindquist Hall Room 100. Both talks are free and open to the public

Come as you are for an afternoon of resilience and food! Attendees will have the chance to listen to Dr. Kabagarama speak on the topic of resilience, incorporating her early life experience in Uganda, migration to the United States in 1982, and career as a professor, minister, storyteller, poet, author, and motivational speaker. Friday, February 10, 1pm-3:30pm at the CAC Theater. The talk is free and open to the public.

The Fairmount College of Liberal Arts and Sciences is hosting a meet and greet with employers on February 15, from 10:30am to 12:30pm, for students in the liberal arts and sciences interested in chatting with employers about positions and internships. Free pizza!

Professor James Schwartz is the lead editor of a new Oxford University Press volume, "Reclaiming Space: Progressive and Multicultural Visions of Space Exploration," which platforms marginalized and underrepresented perspectives on space exploration. The volume will appear in late March and is available for pre-order.

Professor Boyle (College of Charleston) will be the Philosophy Department's Spring 2023 Distinguished Lecturer in the History of Philosophy. Boyle's research focuses on women philosophers in history of early modern and modern philosophy. She is author of Innate Ideas (Continuum, 2009) and The Well-Ordered University: The Philosophy of Margaret Cavendish (Oxford University Press, 2018). Check back in late 2022 or early 2023 for the date and time of Professor Boyle's lecture.

Department Chair and Associate Professor of Philosophy Susan Castro was featured in a recent article of The Sunflower.

WSU Philosophy alumnus, Navy Lieutenant Commander, and Naval Academy Cyber Science Professor Joseph Hatfield recently published a paper entitled "Intelligence under Democracy and Authoritarianism: A Philosophical Analysis" in the journal Intelligence and National Security.

Professor Robert Feleppa, who has been a member of WSU's Philosophy Department since 1980, retired following the Spring 2022 semester, and was granted Emeritus status.
