College of Engineering: First-Gen Shockers

The College of Engineering is now accepting applications for their 2020-2021 Spirit Strong First Generation Scholar Program and their Fall 2020 ACE Mentoring Program. Both of these programs are for incoming College of Engineering students.  A summary of each is below.

Spirit Strong First Generation Scholar Program

This program is for Fall 2020 first time, full time freshman College of Engineering majors who identify as first generation and have limited income.

This past fall, we piloted the program (called First Strong) with 17 students. For the coming year, Spirit AeroSystems has partnered with the college to sponsor the program and we have expanded it from a fall semester program to a full academic year. We will be accepting up to 25 students for the 2020-2021 cohort.

The program includes tutoring, peer and professional mentoring, academic/professional development workshops, social activities, and up to $1,500 in scholarships for the first year. See the website for full program details and the application. July 26 is the application deadline.

ACE Mentoring Program

This program is for any Fall 2020 incoming College of Engineering student (freshman, transfer, returning adult).

The primary focus of this program is peer mentoring, and it additionally includes academic success workshops and social activities. The program takes place during the fall semester. There are no eligibility requirements other than being a new student. We have the capacity to accept approximately 100 students into this program. See the website for full program details and the application. July 26 is the application deadline.
