NIST intends that the new institute will both contribute to and benefit from the expertise within the existing network of Manufacturing USA institutes. We also anticipate accumulating a growing community of BSSw Fellowship alums who can serve as leaders, mentors, and consultants to increase the visibility of those involved in scientific software production and sustainability in the pursuit of scientific discovery. BSSw Fellows are selected annually based on an application process that includes the proposal of a funded activity that promotes better scientific software through a publicly available artifact. Each 2025 BSSw Fellow will receive up to $25,000 for an activity that promotes better scientific software. Activities can include organizing a workshop, preparing a tutorial, or creating content to engage the scientific software community, including broadening participation or promoting diversity, equity, and inclusion.鈥

Obtaining these outcomes would require improvements in process monitoring to optimize responses to faults and ill conditions and to provide predictions to prevent future mishaps. Discussions will include case studies on how statistical models have been effectively applied in characterizing large, complex data sets and how inferential sensors are used to predict key variable properties or performance. In addition to instrumental data, speakers will also touch on the use of business data (e.g. scheduling, operational data, production forecast, etc.) to solve scheduling and control problems often encountered on large complex chemical sites.鈥

Learn to Use BeoShock for your Advanced Research Computing Needs
性色视频 continues to host Beoshock, a High-Performance Computing Cluster (HPC). This HPC is available and free to faculty members, researchers and students engaged in course work or research activities. BeoShock runs the CentOS Linux operating system and features approximately 720 processor cores, two high memory compute nodes with 1.5 terabytes of memory, and four graphics processing unit (GPU) accelerators. BeoShock also has a variety of software tools that may be helpful in your research endeavors, such as Matlab, Mathematica, R, Python and many more.

National Academies of Sciences, Engineering and Medicine (NASEM): New Reports
NASEM has issued two new reports that may be of interest: 鈥A Plan to Promote Defense Research at Minority-Serving Institutions, a new report from the National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine, recommends ways to develop and strengthen the research capacity of historically Black colleges and universities, Tribal colleges and universities, and other minority-serving institutions (MSIs) so that they can contribute more fully to defense-related research.鈥 鈥淭he Federal Aviation Administration should update its methods for ensuring commercial aviation safety so that the agency can better evaluate and regulate new and innovative concepts for aviation operations and technologies, says a new report from the National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine. Building on an initial assessment published in 2022, the report explores how the FAA can improve its practices related to safety risk management and safety assurance, foster a stronger safety culture throughout commercial aviation, and better position itself to oversee and regulate a changing industry.鈥 Additional Publications from NASEM鈥檚 National Academies Press can be found .

National Institutes of Health (NIH) Will Require Use of Common Forms for Biographical Sketch and Current & Pending (Other) Support by May 25, 2025
鈥淣IH will implement the Common Forms without change to any collection fields. However, in accordance with NIH鈥檚 Peer Review Regulations at 42 Code of Federal Regulations Part 52h, NIH currently plans to continue collecting three required agency specific data elements (i.e., Personal Statement, Contributions to Science, and Honors) to assess qualifications. These data elements will be collected separately from the Common Forms on a new NIH Biographical Sketch Supplement.鈥 The Office of Research encourages WSU Principal Investigators to set up their profile in SciENcv and to email funding@wichita.edu for assistance in setting up their profile well in advance.
National Institutes of Health (NIH): National Institute on Aging (NIA) Request for Information on Strategic Directions for Research
鈥淣IA is formulating its Strategic Directions for Research document for 2026-2030, and the Institute seeks public input on revisions to the current document and suggestions for new content. NIA's Strategic Directions for Research document serves as a statement of NIA鈥檚 scientific priority areas within the rapidly evolving field of aging research and provides a framework for systematic analysis of NIA鈥檚 scientific portfolio. The document both complements and forms a solid foundation for more targeted and specific planning tools, including the National Alzheimer's Project Act plan and milestones and NIA's forthcoming strategic plan for diversity, equity, inclusion, and accessibility. Therefore, in addition to input on current and potential new goals and objectives related to aging research, NIA welcomes input on any related topic for which dedicated NIA planning processes exist.鈥
National Institutes of Health (NIH): Request for Information (RFI) on Opportunities and Challenges in Enabling and Advancing Precision Medicine Artificial Intelligence (AI) by Integrating Clinical Imaging with Multimodal Data
鈥淐linical imaging can play critical roles in prediction, diagnosis, treatment planning, and response evaluation across a wide range of health conditions. AI approaches have catalyzed new opportunities in precision, or personalized, medicine, to integrate clinical imaging data with a variety of other health data, including data from electronic health records, genomics, laboratory diagnostics, and other experimental imaging systems. The purpose of this RFI is to solicit public comments on the current challenges and opportunities in developing trustworthy, cost-effective, accessible, ethical, and sustainable precision medicine AI algorithms that integrate medical images with other patient-related data to support clinical decision-making.鈥
National Institutes of Health (NIH): Notice of Special Interest (NOSI): Fundamental Science Research on Complementary and Integrative Health Approaches, Including Natural Products or Mind and Body Interventions
This NOSI describes 鈥淣ational Center of Complementary and Integrative Health (NCCIH) priorities in innovative basic and mechanistic research or technology/method development research relevant to complementary and integrative health approaches and their impact on health outcomes, resilience, and well-being. Complementary health approaches include a broad range of practices and interventions that are not typically part of conventional medical care. Complementary approaches can be classified by their primary therapeutic input, which may be dietary (e.g., special diets, dietary supplements, herbs, prebiotics, and microbial-based therapies including probiotics), psychological (e.g., meditation, hypnosis, virtual reality, music-based interventions, relaxation therapies), physical (e.g., acupuncture, massage, chiropractic manipulation, light, devices related to these approaches), or a combination of psychological and physical (e.g., yoga, tai chi, dance therapies, some forms of art therapies). The dietary approaches include what have been previously categorized as natural products, whereas psychological and/or physical approaches encompass what have been commonly referred to as mind and body interventions. Integrative health brings conventional and complementary approaches together in a coordinated way. Integrative health also emphasizes multimodal interventions that aim to improve health in multiple interconnected domains, social, psychological, and physical, including multiple organs and systems.鈥
National Science Foundation (NSF) Seeks Proposals that Expand NAIRR Pilot Community: Dear Colleague Letter
鈥淭he NSF鈥檚 Advancing education for the future AI workforce (EducateAI) Initiative and the National Artificial Intelligence Research Resource (NAIRR) Pilot both aim to promote and diversify AI education and AI workforce development. (DCL) announces the interest of NSF in receiving proposals that expand the NAIRR Pilot community under two different focus areas, one focus area on community outreach and training to new and emerging researchers, and the other focus area on educators bringing inclusive AI-educational experiences to classrooms nationwide. Submissions led by teams located in Established Program to Stimulate Competitive Research jurisdictions or rural areas, and from Minority Serving Institutions are encouraged.鈥

鈥淭he Americans with Disabilities Act was enacted in 1990. While this landmark civil rights鈥 legislation has been in effect for 30 years, people with disabilities still experience significant health disparities, barriers to care, discrimination, and poor health outcomes. This new infographic shares the latest data on health for people with disabilities, including demographics and the rising cost of care, as well as approaches to improve care, home and community resources, and research.鈥
NIHCM Foundation Releases Infographic about Ransomware Attacks鈥 Impact on Rural Hospitals
鈥淎mid increasing cybersecurity threats aimed at urban and rural health care delivery systems, a novel study found that while ransomware attacks are less likely to occur in rural areas, the operational disruptions resulting from such attacks may have more pronounced effects on financially vulnerable rural hospitals. This study offers valuable insights for policymakers and health systems seeking to understand the ramifications of ransomware attacks on rural hospitals鈥 viability and operations, as well as the patients they serve.鈥

ARPA-H: Launches Platform Optimizing SynBio for Early Intervention and Detection in Oncology (POSEIDON) and Groundbreaking Lymphatic Interventions and Drug Exploration (GLIDE)
鈥淎RPA-H鈥檚 two newest programs - POSEIDON and GLIDE - offer interested industry and academic institutions the opportunity to attend upcoming Proposers鈥 Days, form teams, and submit proposals. The POSEIDON program intends to develop first-in-class, at-home, synthetic Multi-Cancer-Early Detection tests for the most sensitive and specific stage I detection of 30+ solid tumors using only breath and/or urine samples, while the GLIDE program aims to develop physical, pharmacologic, gene, and cell-based therapeutic interventions to treat primary and rare lymphatic disease and chronic conditions complicated by lymphatic dysfunction.
